Tye River Cabin

This delightful little building in the North Cascades was somewhat out of balance with it’s setting when we were first asked to take a look at it. While beautifully built, of exquisite materials, and the winner of an AIA Honor Award, the cabin lacked a welcoming front entry and had no significant outdoor living areas.

To reinforce the connection between the cabin and the bedrock outcrop on which it sits, Alchemie developed a Master Plan, with a vehicular arrival court, new entry path, bridge, and front walkway; all woven through a newly developed spring, stream, meadow, and forest complex. By extending the cabin’s architectural language and materials into the forest and around the outcrop, a new terrace system has been developed, providing outdoor living areas, and a link with the river beyond.

Architect: Tom Kundig, Olson Sundberg Kundig Allen
